Seed Detective Challenge

Master Plant Classification by Seeds!

๐ŸŒŸ Welcome, Detective!

Phanerogams are seed-bearing plants! Your mission is to classify them based on how their seeds are structured. Are they naked or covered? Can they split into two halves?

๐ŸŒฒ Gymnosperms

Meaning: Gymnos (naked) + Sperm (seed)

Seeds: Naked, NOT covered by fruit

Examples: Pine, Cycad, Deodar, Christmas tree

Features: Woody plants with crown-shaped leaves

๐ŸŒบ Angiosperms

Meaning: Angio (cover) + Sperm (seed)

Seeds: Covered inside fruits

Divided into: Monocots & Dicots

Features: Have flowers and fruits

๐ŸŒพ Monocotyledons

Cotyledons: ONE seed leaf

Seed Test: Cannot split into 2 halves

Examples: Maize, Wheat, Rice, Bamboo

Features: Parallel leaf veins

๐Ÿฅœ Dicotyledons

Cotyledons: TWO seed leaves

Seed Test: Can easily split into 2 halves

Examples: Groundnut, Bean, Pea, Mango

Features: Reticulate leaf veins

๐ŸŽฎ How to Play

  • 1
Level 1: Drag plants to Gymnosperm or Angiosperm zones
  • 2
Level 2: Classify seeds as Monocot or Dicot
  • 3
Level 3: Click seeds to split them - test if they're monocot or dicot!
  • 4
    Scoring: Correct = +5 points | Wrong = -2 points
๐Ÿงช Real Life Experiment: Soak maize and groundnut in water for 8-10 hours. Try opening them - groundnut splits easily (dicot), maize doesn't (monocot)!

๐ŸŽ“ What You Mastered:

  • โœ“ Gymnosperms - Plants with naked seeds (Pine, Cycad)
  • โœ“ Angiosperms - Plants with covered seeds (Most flowering plants)
  • โœ“ Monocots - One cotyledon, seeds don't split (Maize, Wheat, Rice)
  • โœ“ Dicots - Two cotyledons, seeds split easily (Groundnut, Bean, Pea)
  • โœ“ The practical seed split test to identify monocots vs dicots!

๐ŸŒŸ Did You Know?

Gymnosperm seeds are the oldest type of seeds - they evolved over 300 million years ago!
